My internship is still not completely done. I will be starting a club that has to do with Law Day. In this club we will learn about your rights, jury duty, obligations, proper court language, mock trials, have guest speakers specifically lawyers, and help upcoming juniors who want to pursue a career in law get law internships. We want to start this as an afterschool club and then hopefully turn it into a 6th period. This is going to be sort of like an all year project because we want to run the club all of next year. We proposed our internship idea at our last staff meeting and all the lawyers seemed to love it. They said that we can count on them for anything and ask them questions if we are ever need help. Its great to have their support and I know that with their help we can create a club that will really benefit the students of High Tech High. At fist we didn't know what we wanted to do for our project because we felt like the City Attorney office had everything under control. Glen Googins which is the current City of Chula Vista Attorney who is our second mentor actually gave us the idea of starting a club. H has always had the dream of creating something that will influence the younger generation and hopefully inspire them to pursue a career in law. He just doesn't have the time to do this so he thought that with our help he could make this dream of his possible. I have always wanted to start a club but never knew what type of cub I should start. I will not only be help the City Attorney with his dream but also making my dream a reality. I want this club to start at High Tech but later travel to other High Tech Highs and maybe even travel to all of the school in the Sweetwater Union High School District. I think this club would be an awesome addition to our school. We would run it for a year but then pass it on to other student after we graduate, It would be a great feeling knowing that I left a piece of me at High Tech. It would be so awesome to come back an visit High Tech once I'm in college and see that my club is still there. It would be the coolest thing ever to say " Wow I started this!"
UNFORGETTABLE My view of life beyond high school has defiantly changed during this internship because it made me realize that I am really going to miss high school when I graduate. Dong get me wrong the attorney office is a great place to be at but high school is overall more fun because I get to see my friends everyday. But this internship defiantly showed me that if you have a job that you honestly love, going to work everyday will be enjoyable. Here at the attorney office, everyone is so organized and even though I consider myself an organized person I would love to be even more and just as organized as the lawyers. Organization will make your life easier and as a lawyer you need to know where every thing is at because everything literally everything important her. This internship has defiantly influenced the direction of my life because it showed me that I do in fact want to become a lawyer in the future. This internship was an amazing experience and something I will never forget. The people here were some of the nicest people I have ever met and I will defiantly miss everyone at the City of Chula Vista Attorney Office. They all work so hard and inspire me in so many ways! Coming into this internship I felt like I was prepared. High Tech has given me and helped with my public speaking skills, organization, communication,, responsibility, and independence. These skills are very useful to have here at the attorney office because these are skills that are used on a daily basis here. If I were at a regular high school I wouldn't have these skills that I have today. Coming into this internship I wasn't scared because I knew I had what it took to be a great intern. Here at the attorney office they have weekly staff meeting on Mondays. Yesterday our mentor told us last minute that Caro and I had to prepare a presentation about any topic that we wanted. I personally thought that he was kidding at first because I would think that he would give us more time to present. We ended up giving our presentation on our internship project. To be co completely honest the presentation went better than I expected. Yes it was last minute but everyone said we did a great job. The public speaking skills that we have gained throughout the years at High Tech really helped us for the better during this situation.
I personally feel like I made a positive contribution to this workspace because I helped and completed any thing that had to get done. I also strongly believe that my project to start up a club that focuses on law is something that will positively affect the attorney office. This is something that the City Attorney has always wanted to do but frankly does not have enough time to organize it. This club is his idea ad we are partnering up with him to make this happen. Hopefully this club starts off at High tech High Chula Vista and later grows to other schools in the Chula Vista School District. We want this to live on even after we graduate. But overall I feel like I have been a positive addition to the group of interns because I have worked hard these past 4 weeks and hopefully my mentors notice this. My work as an intern has been meaning to my education in so many ways. I have worked on assignments here at the attorney office that have rally made e thing. Law isn't an easy subject because in order to prove something you have to have evidence to back your answer up. This internship has made me a better researcher and has helped with my context clue skills. This internship has also helped realized that I do in fact want to be a lawyer. I'm glad that I realized that now, at such a young age and its all thanks to this internship. |
