As of right now I feel like things are going very well .I am very comfortable here and I am sad that its going to be over in 2 weeks. When I first got here I wanted to be an intern that the office could trust and an intern that always completed their task at their greatest ability. I feel like I have done a great job at doing this and my mentors have already told Caro and I that we are doing an awesome job. I have showed them what I am capable of but I want to push myself and show not only them but also myself that I am capable of even more. I hope that when I leave I will be an mentor that they remember. These next two weeks are going to go just as fast as the last two. I will defiantly miss the attorney office and I wish internship was at least two months because 1 month goes by way too fast. I hope that I am doing everything that I can and I hope mentors have realized that I am capable of producing some great work.
I came into this internship wanting to find out if law was actually the right career for me. I really do like the whole "attorney office" environment and feel like I would love to do this in the future. At times I do feel like being a lawyer can get very stressful but every job is like that and if I enjoy my job, then the stress would be worth it. It can get very quiet her at times which maybe would be a problem for me because I love socializing, laughing, and talking to others. But yet again maybe its so quite where I work because I am he intern office and know one wants to talk and be known as the "annoying intern." But the actual lawyers have their own offices and have meetings all the time. So they are always communicating and working with lawyers. Lawyers main job is to help other people with there's problem. The main reason why I want to be a lawyer is because I want to be the person that changed someone's people life. I don't know what type of lawyer I want to be yet but as of right now I want to pursue a career in immigration law. I want to be the person that reunites families, the person that helps people from all around the world., the person that gives these people hope and reminds them that their problem can get resolved.
As or right now I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I want to do for my project. I feel like the attorney office runs very well and there aren't really any huge changes that have to be made. Caro and I were talking Glen Googins the City Attorney which is practically our second mentor and he said that he was working with our mentor Diem on a possible project for the two of us. He was thinking that Caro and I could possible start a class at High Tech. We haven't gone over many details but I think that would be an awesome idea and possibly project. In order for this to be a successful project we would need the support of our school as well as our mentors. I know that they would support us if we have a solid plan and if the class would benefit the entire school. I am looking forward to seeing where this "idea" will go and I know that it will turn out great. I want to create a project that will help many and a class would do just that!

This week we mainly helped with the preparation of a Brown Act workshop that they were having at the City of Chula Vista City hall. I feel that overall the school has prepared me very well for this internship. At High Tech they teach us to be independent and try to figure things out on your own. Here at my internship this is a very important skill because they give us work and trust that we know how to do. I have only been here for 4 days but I have already learned so much. At High Tech we use Google drive for practically everything but here at the attorney office they use Microsoft Word. I was able to adapt to the change easily because I have used Microsoft Word a lot in the past. Every day is a new experience. Yesterday we had a new law school intern show up and she was full of energy. It was her second to last day and she said " If there's one piece of advise that I could give you its this. You get out whatever you put into this." That really stayed in my mind because it is so accurate. In order for me to get a positive experience I have to be the one that makes it a positive. I am responsible of my actions and no one else can make this a memorable experience other than me. During this internship I hope to strengthen my computer skills. I have never really been good at the whole technology thing but everything we do on this internship requires a computer. Being able to do things on a computer is a necessary skill to have and I know that by interning here for month my computer skill will be really good towards the end.. As of right now my parents drive me to internship. Its only about a 15 minute drive which is very covenant, but my mom having to drive me to and from internship has made me realize how much I actually need to drive now. If I had my license I would be able to drive to internship and it would make things a lot easier on my parents. Caro and I are interning at the same place, so we are working on hopefully carpooling in the future. I am extremely happy here at my internship and I am so fortunate for this opportunity. Overall, internship is awesome. everyone is so welcoming and friendly. They always greet me with a warm smile and I feel safe there. Yesterday they introduced me to the staff at their weekly staff meeting. There's a mixture of personalities and I have gotten the chance to meet some amazing people. So far I have met Terri, Joyce, Cheryl, Mike, Chance, Simon, Janice, David, and my mentor Diem. She is honestly the sweetest person and I am so fortunate to have her as my mentor. I also have the opportunity to work with the city attorney Glen Googins, which has been a great experience as well. He actually took us out to eat to Chipotle today. We talked about a problem that he assigned us, school, our dreams, and college. Overall it was a great talk. I know that this will be an unforgettable experience and I am beyond happy that I get to intern at the city hall. These 4 weeks are going to be so much fun and I know that I will learn a lot by being here. I don't want to let my mentor down and I will complete the work assigned to me to my greatest ability! |
