Summary :
So I decided to read up to chapter 17 this week. Since I will be reading this book in three weeks I decided to divide the book into three equal parts and after dividing it its roughly about 98 pages per week. This week, chapter 16 ended on page 98 which worked out perfectly. So far I am really enjoying this book. While reading the first third of the book I have gotten a general idea of the characters as well as the problems. The main character of the book is a boy named Huck, who is from a poor white family. He comes from a very religious Widow, Widows sister who takes care of him, as well an alcoholic, abusive father. Huck ends up running away and while being on his own he finds Jim, which is Widows slave. He ends leaving Widow because he finds out that he is going to get sold. They are both trying to survive on an island but end up leaving later.
Question :
What time period was this?
Why can't Widow get custody of Huck? What were the laws back then because I am pretty sure they aren't the ska laws we have now. I thought about this question while reading this because I am really interested in becoming a Family Lawyer and I think its weird that Widow can't get custody of Huck because Hucks dad has to have custody of him?
What happened during the robbers boat situation because I got very confused while reading this?
Prediction :
I think that Huck and Jim will get caught for some reason. I'm hoping that they don't but for some reason I feel like they will. The first time Huck went to shore he even dressed up like a girl so that he wouldn't get caught because he supposed to be "dead". But the next time he went back to shore we didn't discuss himself which is weird.
